March 2005

Finally we moved on from a film camera to a digital camera in 2005. I remember dragging my feet not wanting to go with digital for some reason but I'm glad I finally switched. So much easier to deal with digital photos!

We'll start with video from March 3, 2005 with Matt and Kaleb playing.

Kaleb was so excited to suck on this nectarine pit.

March 8, 2005

One weekend Matt's brother John was in town and he slept on the bed in Kaleb's room so we put Kaleb in the hallway in our room so that he wouldn't bother John.

March 13, 2005

This is at Sunday dinner at my grandparents house. It had been a long time since we needed a high chair at Sunday dinner until Kaleb came along.

March 13, 2005

As soon as Kaleb would hear the shower turn on he would run in and open the curtain and stand there trying to get his hand in the water. He would always be pretty wet after from getting splashed on but he loved it. As he got older he would try to climb into the tub fully clothed to join in on your shower.

 March 19, 2005

I remember this night very well because right after this picture was taken Kaleb knocked over a bowl of really hot egg drop soup onto his lap and was screaming. We were with friends at one of the restaurants where they cook in front of you and as soon as they lit the onion pyramid on fire or anything else on fire Kaleb started crying.

March 19, 2005

After church we decided to take some pictures. I always loved dressing Kaleb up for church. I was in the young women's in our ward and we had a small group of girls but they were awesome. I loved my calling. Matt was the financial clerk and then ward clerk the whole time we were in that ward.

He was always so happy!

He loved eating and here he stuffed a full peanut butter cracker sandwich in his mouth.

 March 21, 2005

Matt's parents were in town and we went up to the This is the Place Heritage Park to look around.

March 26, 2005

Kaleb loved eating spaghetti noodles and slurping them up.

March 26, 2005

As he became more mobile he would get into everything. He loved pushing the buttons on electronics and getting into the drawers in the kitchen.

March 29, 2005

He was also the only child we put toilet locks on for. Ashton and Olivia also went through a phase where they would try to play in the toilet but Kaleb was obsessed with it and just in case we forgot to close the door to the bathroom we put locks on them to make sure he couldn't get into them. Seeing the toilet paper unraveled makes me laugh because Olivia still does that right now.

I always heard people say with their first they were so good about getting pictures taken and with each kid it was less and less. I told myself I wouldn't do that and would make sure to get pictures taken with all my kids. With Kaleb we went every 3 months for the first year and then 6 months and yearly after that. With Ashton we went every 6 months for the first 2 years and then we weren't so good about it since Kaleb started getting pictures taken at school and it was one more thing to do. Poor Olivia, I took her newborns and then we have her pictures from our family photo sessions at 8 months and just over a year but nothing just for her. But I make up for it by taking lots of pictures even if they aren't taken in a studio! So I guess I ended up following the trend like many other parents!

Here are some of Kaleb's 9 month pictures.

January 2005

I know I have pictures somewhere for part of December 2004 and January and February 2005 but I can't find them in my pictures archive on my computer so I need to find them on a disc and add them later. Here are a couple of videos from January 2005 until then.

Up until about 3 or 4 years ago we would go to Sherwood Hill's Resort outside of Logan, UT for New Year's. We always loved swimming in the pools.

When we managed the apartments at Brookside we loved having game nights. At the time we were the only ones with a baby so we usually played at our place.

I always loved hearing Kaleb playing in his crib after he woke up from his naps. He wouldn't cry most of the time, he would just play until I heard him and came to get him.

You  have to love the annoying, baby voices us parents make. Looking back through all of our videos we sound pretty ridiculous but it's still fun to watch them. Kaleb loved anytime we would bounce him, play airplane or throw him up in the air.

December 2004

We decided to take some pictures at my parents house to use for our Christmas cards.

We put Kaleb under the Christmas tree and he loved reaching for the lights and ornaments.

Our ward Christmas party that year was a candy theme. This picture doesn't show it but the place was decked out with fabric draped from the ceiling and elaborate decorations everywhere.

Kaleb was still too little to be scared of Santa in this picture. He didn't mind sitting on his lap at all.

Kaleb loved to make noise with my piano. He was just learning to crawl at this point so it was more of a scoot forward to get where he wanted to go. And he learned to crawl backwards first. He would get on all fours but only go backwards for a couple of weeks. He was always stuck under the couch or a chair because he couldn't see where he was going.

My dad was playing a game on the computer and Kaleb would watch the screen so intently so he decided to put the headphones on him to see what he would do. He had this look on his face the whole time they were on him. He couldn't figure out where the noise was coming from.

All bundled up and fast asleep.

We had a great Christmas that year. It was small and quiet with the three of us. My parents gave Kaleb a toy activity center you sit in and scoot around on that we still have. All 3 kids have loved it. Kaleb was more into wrapping paper than anything else though. I remember there were plenty of presents with some wrapping paper already torn off come Christmas morning.

Here's a video I made back in 2004 of December 13-25, 2004.

September to November 2004

I actually forgot to take pictures the day of Kaleb's blessing so these are from my parents camera and scanned in, not the best quality. Kaleb was blessed on September 5, 2004.

We had a luncheon after outside at our apartment complex. This is Kaleb with his great-great grandpa on my mom's side.

This is Kaleb with my uncle Narvel who has the same birthday as Kaleb.

When the leaves were changing colors we decided to go for a drive and take some pictures. This is my mushroom hair phase, not my best haircut that's for sure.

Kaleb didn't seem to mind that we would lay him right in the leaves.

Kaleb and daddy.

These are some of Kaleb's 3-month pictures we had taken. That puppy is actually on the floor next to me right now. It's Kaleb's favorite stuffed animal and Ashton likes to claim it sometimes too.

Kaleb LOVED bath time. He would kick and splash the whole time getting water everywhere.

Kaleb's first Halloween. He wasn't a big fan of the hood part.

Kaleb loved trying to eat anything we were eating and Matt would tease him all the time. He usually gave him a lick or two.

This was on a trip to Idaho for an early Scherzinger Thanksgiving.

We stayed at my aunts relative's house and Matt was reading one night and Kaleb was really into the book too.

I always kept the lotion bottle on the changing table and as soon as I would lay Kaleb down he could arch his back and grab the lotion or side of the table, he never wanted to lay down flat when getting changed.

Long ago, before life became too busy, Matt liked playing computer games and Kaleb would be mesmerized by the screen.

Kaleb taking a nap after church.

I think this was also an after church nap.

Babies sure like to sleep.

Watching his mobile after a bath.

We only pulled out the swing once or twice, Kaleb wasn't a big fan of it most of the time.

This was taken at Thanksgiving in Colorado, I loved this hat on Kaleb with the ear flaps.

Here are some videos put together in 2004 from August, September, October and November 2004.

July & August 2004

This is from the 4th of July. We walked down to Murray park to watch the fireworks and Kaleb slept the whole time.

Kaleb would always stick out his tongue if he saw you do it. I was always amazed that at 1 month old he would mimic that.

Towards the end of July 2004 we headed to Colorado to celebrate Rue's 50th birthday with everyone. We took family pictures and on the Snell family there were only 3 grandchildren, now there are 9.

Here Kaleb is chilling on my lap while I trimmed his nails after a bath.

While in Colorado we visited the Sand Dunes. It was really windy that day and I remember how hard it was to walk in the sand while carrying Kaleb in the car seat. The tiny spec on the top of the peak is a person. I couldn't believe how big they were.

The first weekend in August we went camping with some friends. Let's just say a 6 week old and very emotional mommy don't mix very well with camping. Although here Kaleb was enjoying himself.

We only lasted one of the two nights since it was freezing and trying to feed Kaleb during the night was almost impossible but it was still a very memorable trip.

Here are some videos I made back in 2004 of Colorado and the camping trip.

Kaleb's Birth

I remember feeling some contractions June 15th, 2004 (37 1/2 weeks) and I couldn't really sleep. It was just after midnight and I was on the couch reading when my water broke. Shortly after that the contractions started. I thought it would take awhile for them to be regular and close together but they immediately were 3-5 minutes apart. We called the hospital around 1:30 and they had a doctor call us back. After speaking with him he said to come in. I figured being my first baby I had time so I took a shower and we headed for Cottonwood Hospital around 3:30. On the way there the contractions were getting really uncomfortable. They checked us in at 4:00am. It took awhile to get everything set up. The contractions were really strong and so Matt asked the nurse if I could get an epidural. By this time it was about 6:00am and I didn't get the epidural until right before 7am. This picture was after the epidural. I felt so much better. And at some point before the epidural I was really nauseous and they gave me a popsicle to eat but I couldn't keep it down.

After the epidural I quickly dilated and at 8:30 I started pushing. At 8:59am Kaleb was born weighing 6 lbs 13 oz and 21 inches long.

That's my doctor, Dr. Lloyd. He actually delivered me when I was a baby and now he was delivering my baby.

He screamed until he was wrapped up then he was quiet and really awake.

When he was on the warming bed being cleaned up he peed all over the blankets because they didn't have a diaper on him yet.

My mom and dad were there and then I called my best friend Amber and she came with her mom.

This is the second day. Matt's parents arrived the second day.

Matt's mother, Rue.

Kaleb had dark brown hair and quite a bit of it in the back which of course he lost over the next couple months. Giving birth was an amazing experience. The hospital stay was hard because of the pain I was in and then they wanted Kaleb in the room with me and he didn't sleep at all. Being my first time I just went with whatever they said. It was crazy to load Kaleb in the car and head home with a new baby that we had to take care of. The first week was rough because Kaleb would projectile throw-up and I was an emotional wreck not knowing what to do. But after that we started figuring things out.

Here's a video I put together after he was born:
